The first seven games of the regular season in the NBA are usually not enough to make conclusions or determine things regarding the performance of a team to a player, however, there are exceptions and the Dallas Mavericks point guard Luka Doncic has already managed to surpass Michael Jordan and equal Wilt Chamberlain, no more, no less.

Luka Doncic puts his name among the best in history

The stellar Slovenian player scored 33 points in his team’s 103-100 win over the Utah Jazz on Wednesday and with that he has started the season with seven games of at least 30 points scored, making him the first player in 60 years to achieve that milestone, Charmberlain did it in 1962-63 with the San Francisco Warriors (23 games in a row), he had also achieved it (seven games) with this same franchise when he was in Philadelphia in 1959.

The Mavericks will face the Toronto Raptors on Friday and if he surpasses or equals 30 points he will equal the second all-time best mark to start a season, which is also Chamberlain’s in 1960.

Wilt Chamberlain’s unattainable numbers

It should be shortened to Jack Twyman also managed to start seven straight games in 1959 with at least 30 points when he was a player for the Cincinnati Royals, who are now known as the Sacramento Kings.

As for the aforementioned all-time mark of all-time games in a row with at least 30 points to open a season, Doncic is still a far cry from Chamberlain’s own milestone, the 23 games he achieved in the aforementioned 1962-63 season, also with the Warriors, is a goal that really looks somewhere between distant and unattainable.

Doncic’s 33 points led the Mavs to their first win for the first time this season and also put them on a positive 4-3 record, for now occupying the sixth place in the Western Conference, tied with three other teams (New Orleans Pelicans, Denver Nuggets and Oklahoma City Thunder).
