A woman from Maryland was going through her Facebook news feed when she stumbled across a familiar video in a breastfeeding support group. The mother, Izabele Lomax, immediately paused to look at the post closely.

The post was a screenshot of another post where a woman had uploaded a video of a mother breastfeeding her child on the beach without covering herself. The original poster thought the woman should have covered up.

“Just pulled up my Facebook and was greeted with this, and I just cannot understand how another female can say this and take VIDEO of this momma feeding her baby and post it to the internet,” the person in the breastfeeding support group wrote while sharing a screenshot of the original post.

When Lomax looked at the screenshot closely, she felt furious because the woman on the beach was her. “I was like, ‘That’s me!'” Lomax recalled in an interview. The 24-year-old mother had no idea that someone had secretly filmed her a day ago while she was sitting at the beach with her baby.

The original poster began her post by saying she didn’t mean to shame women who breastfed their babies. She said, “I’m shaming the woman who breastfeeds in public with no respect to cover themselves up.”

The original poster said she didn’t want her son to see topless women on the beach and didn’t feel comfortable covering her son’s eyes while explaining what the woman was doing topless.

The original poster attached a video of Lomax sitting on the beach under an umbrella while breastfeeding her 9-week-old son. Lomax had no clue she was being filmed and that the woman would post the video online without her consent.

Lomax went to the beach to enjoy her day with her parents and fiancé, but the other woman ruined her mood the next day. Lomax was furious, so she responded to the video by recording a message on TikTok and writing a note on Facebook.

One day after being filmed at the beach, Lomax posted a TikTok video where she said, “Not only did this woman walk past me multiple times with her son, you had every opportunity in the world to say something to me.”

Lomax said she wouldn’t have stopped breastfeeding her child if the woman talked to her at the beach, but she thought that was a better way to communicate her message. She believed posting her video on Facebook was not the right thing to do.

In her video, Lomax stated that the other woman should not have sexualized the concept of breastfeeding in front of her 4-year-old son. She believed the woman had “her own set of issues” because of how she reacted to the situation.

In her Facebook post, Lomax said, “If you have the time to take a video of me and make this joke of a Facebook post, you have the time to educate your son about the fact that babies are fed this way.” She added:

“I hope you eat all of your future meals under a towel in 95-degree weather. Grow up.”

Lomax’s video on TikTok has since received over 540,000 views, while the woman who originally posted the video has deleted it. People posted messages of support for Lomax in her video’s comments section.

Her story was also shared by online media outlets on Facebook, where netizens reacted to the incident. A woman said, “There’s nothing more beautiful and natural than breastfeeding. I’m glad this mom spoke out.”

Another netizen wrote, “Who does this lady think needs protection? Kids? You just tell your kid, ‘That lady is feeding her baby.’ Then the kid asks some questions, and you answer and move on. You know, like parenting.”

“It’s not like you can see anything. There’s a baby’s head in the way!” a third person said. Most people rallied in Lomax’s support while stating what the other woman did was wrong. They disagreed with the other woman’s stance on this situation.
