Eagle-eyed fans spot evidence of the toll Rob Green's 20-year goalkeeping career took on the former England No 1 and Channel 4 pundit

Football fans were shocked after seeing the extent of Rob Green’s shocking finger injury that he sustained throughout years of toil during his goalkeeper career.

The 44-year-old previously starred as an England regular alongside sustained spells as West Ham and Norwich No.1. He has since switched to a career in front of the camera but still bears the wounds from his playing days.

Green’s small finger on his right-hand is bent at a right-angle caused through years of torment playing between the sticks as a Premier League goalkeeper, and some fans are shocked at the extent of his unnatural injury.

He made 12 senior England caps and represented the national side at the 2010 World Cup where he made an error allowing the USA to equalise against England in their opening group-stage match of the tournament.

However, a picture of Green’s gruesome finger while he held onto a microphone at England’s latest clash has now gone viral with fans questioning why the issue hasn’t been rectified.

Taking to social media to share their astonishment, one viewer comically posted on X: ‘Something doesn’t seem right here… Can’t put my finger on it.’

Another similarly added: ‘It’s 2024 surely that can be fixed!’

Green hasn’t been afraid to speak out about his unusual finger injury since retiring and explained the measures he frequently took to help him battle the issue while still playing.

‘So for the last 10 years of my career or so I had a finger brace within my gloves to help me survive through the games.

‘It’s kind of stayed that way ever since and now it’s a kind of nice ice breaker for conversations,’ he said.
