As per the reports, on Sunday, Nkanyiso Zungu gets arrested and was charged at Moffatview Police Station. Orlando Pirates Player, Nkanyiso Zungu, 26, was arrested by the police in Johannesburg for allegedly assaulting his partner. An update was provided by the South African Police Service on the detained of Zungu and also gave information on the charge.
The Buccaneers said in a club statement, “Orlando Pirates Football Club can assert that midfielder Police Station this evening. The club suspends Mr. Zungu pending a probe.
As this matter is presented in the hands of the authorities, the Club is not able to make further comment until the process is complete.” Siya Crew received another statement by them that reads “A 26- year-old professional soccer player was detained by the cops in Johannesburg on Sunday 13th of March 2022 for the plausible assault of his companion. He is expected to come up at Booysens Magistrates Court on Monday, 14th of March 2022 facing a charge of common assault under domestic violence.”
Nkanyiso Zungu’s fans were very sad when they heard that the elegant midfielder was found in handcuffs on Sunday. The arresting took place just after the club won 3-0 over Royal Leopards in the CAF Confederation Cup in Soweto.
Sadly, for the club, Buccaneers, the Pirates brand is interchangeable with ill-disciplined footballers due to which they have been tarnished as a club. In 6 years, 6 reported apprehends make it rather challenging to defend the Soweto giants.
The six arrests were:
- In March 2017, Thabo Rakhale allegedly assaulted his girlfriend in Vereeniging.
- In September 2017, Happy Jele was Arrested for speeding at 223km/hour in a 120km/h zone.
- In March 2018, Thabo Matlaba allegedly assaulted a woman in Tembisa.
- In September 2020, Thembinkosi Lorch alleged assault on his girlfriend in Midrand.
- In September 2021, Ben Motshwari handed himself to the police for assault in Randfontein.
- In March 2022, Nkanyiso Zungu gets arrested for an unconfirmed charge in Moffatview.
This season will be a major setback for Zungu, who did not play much for the Pirates. In January, the player was about to depart from the club, but the club kept him. The club knew that if somehow cops will release him then he will definitely be available to play again and decided to go chose the club. It will be very difficult for the club to run again if they didn’t do that.
