Members of the Swedish royal family beamed as they attended a Council of State meeting for a very special occasion.

Attending the announcement of Princess Sofia and Prince Carl Philip’s fourth child’s name were King Carl Gustaf and Crown Princess Victoria, among others.

The new parents welcomed their baby on Friday and were pictured leaving hospital with their newborn this weekend.

Today, the King conveyed to the Government that the Princess, who holds the eighth position in line to the throne, will be called Ines Marie Lilian Silvia, known as Princess Ines.

Princess Ines has been granted the Duchy of VƤsterbotten .

As stated on the royal website, in line with His Majesty The Kingā€™s resolution of 7 October 2019 concerning modifications in The Royal House, Princess Ines is part of the Royal Family but not a member of The Royal House.

‘The Princess will therefore not enjoy the style of Royal Highness.’

The name has roots in a number of languages, and means ‘pure’, ‘chaste’ and ‘holy’.Ā

As she left the hospital, Princess Sofia was glowing, looking radiant as she smiled at waiting photographers.

She was dressed casually, wrapping up warmly for the brisk Swedish weather, donning dark flared trousers, a high neck cream sweater, and a coordinating cream jacket.

She wore her brunette tresses loose, and a natural make-up look, with glowing skin. She finished off the look with a baseball cap and thick soled dark boots.

Meanwhile, her husband was equally casual, opting for green slacks, blue trainers, a blue shirt, navy Winter coat, and green baseball cap.Ā

The royal couple announced last September that they would be having their fourth child together.

A Palace statement revealing the pregnancy at the time said: ‘Swedish Royal Household at the time of the pregnancy announcement read: ‘Prince Carl Philip and Princess Sofia have the great pleasure to announce that the Princess is expecting the couple’s fourth child.Ā Ā

‘Princess Sofia is doing well and the birth is expected in February 2025. No changes are expected in Princess Sofia’s official program during the autumn.’

The statement was shared alongside a sweet photograph of the couple, with Carl Philip smiling at the camera, while his wife leaned her head on his face. The background featured a stunning lake and several mountains.

While she is eighth in line to the throne, Sofia andĀ Carl Philip’s child will not have an HRH style title because of a decision made byĀ King Carl XVI Gustaf in 2019.

During his ChristmasĀ speech, he revealed that he was stripping his grandchildren of their titles so that it could help them ‘eventually carve out their own future’.Ā

The monarch said at the time: ‘The decision was to make clear who within the royal family will act as official representatives of Sweden in the future. For me, this is a way of clarifying what expectations are.Ā

‘It will hopefully be helpful when my grandchildren eventually carve out their own future. But, to that day, it is far away.’Ā

The new addition to the Swedish royal family is also King Carl and Queen Silvia’s ninth grandchild. Following the birth, the official Swedish royal family Instagram account published a picture announcing the news, prompting many fans to congratulate the couple.Ā
