Just in case you didn’t know, ESPN released a docu-series about Derek Jeter’s brilliant career and his relationship with Alex Rodriguez takes center stage. Although this is definitely a documentation of arguably the best short-stop in MLB history, Alex Rodriguez’s relevance today made it even more important than it already was. Even though Jeter himself has stated he has no issues with Rodriguez, there was definitely a gret friendship that was tarnished over comments from A-Rod.
They happened during a Miami Heat game as an Esquire reporter was assigned to conduct an interview on Rodriguez. To thos day, Jeter says he has no problems with Alex but the documentary paints a very different picture. It is evident that Derek felt betrayed by Rodriguez for his comments on that There is no wedge. Everything’s good. What did Alex Rodriguez say about Jeter?
At first, the audio of the interview has Alex Rodriguez talking about the close friendship he has with Jeter. Until that point, they had been thick as thieves since they were young. But then, he goes on to say this: “He’s reserved, quiet. Jeter‘s been blessed with great talent around him. So he’s never had to lead. He doesn’t have to; he can just go and play and have fun and hit second.
“I mean, you know, hitting second is totally different than hitting third or fourth in a lineup because you go into New York trying to stop Bernie [Williams] and [Paul] O’Neill and everybody. You never say, ‘Don’t let Derek beat you.’ That’s never your concern.”

These words truly hurt Jeter, especially due to the way the media wrote their stories about the whole topic. Rodriguez immediately asked to meet with Derek to apologize but the damage was done. Their friendship would never be the same again, not even when Alex Rodriguez decided to go play for the Yankees.
