A professional horse trainer died when she fell off her horse while drunk after drinking a double gin and tonic at 6 a.m., according to an investigation.
Annette Day, 60, of Lambley Paddocks, Lowdham, Nottinghamshire, suffered a fatal brain injury in the fall, the court was told.
The Nottingham coroner heard yesterday how her husband Andrew heard a change in the horse’s footfall as she fell.
He realized something was wrong and ran to find his wife lying on the ground, but she said she was unharmed.
But she admitted that when she was riding she “ suddenly felt dizzy ” and the next minute she was on the ground, Nottingham Post reported.
She fell on the soft sand of the sand and no damage was found on her hoof, and she told her husband ‘let’s go back to the house’.
Mr. Day drove her back to her home in Lambley Paddocks, but she passed out and was forced to call an ambulance.
She was rushed to Queen’s Medical Center in Nottingham, where she was found to have a coma score of three, meaning she was not fully responding.
Ms. Day had bleeding in the brain and she could not be operated on, so the doctors intubated her.
Coroner Dr. Elizabeth Didcock told the court: “It was thought that her brain injury could not survive.

“[Her husband of hers] reports that she was an alcoholic for a long time and drank about half a bottle of liquor a day.”
She added: ‘On the fall day, she drank a double scoop of Gin and Tonic at 6am.’
Ms. Day fell around 4:40 pm on May 14 and passed away in the hospital two days later.
She had 173 milligrams of alcohol per 100 milliliters of blood, more than double the alcohol limit, a toxicology report found.
Dr. Didcock concluded that her death was an accident and was caused by the bleeding from the fall.
