In the documentary, viewers will delve into the lives of three striking miners who ended up victims of police violence and facing a riot charge which carried a maximum life sentence. Arthur Critchlow, Stef Wysocki and Ernie Barber were dramatically acquitted.

They now tell their moving stories and reveal the devastating effect the events of that day have had on their lives. The film, which includes archive footage and testimony some will find shocking, raises many questions which many people feel deserve answers.

Arthur Critchlow, Stef Wysocki and Ernie Barber speak openly and movingly throughout the film of violence on the day.

Ahead of the documentary series airing, South Yorkshire Police issued a statement to those who made the feature. They said the body ‘recognises public concern about the events at Orgreave’.

South Yorkshire Police added: “It would not be appropriate for the South Yorkshire Police of today to Seek to explain or defend the actions of the force in 1984 as very few, if any, of those present remain here today and the documentation we hold Has not been assessed.

“We believe the appropriate process to determine exactly what occurred and why, would be an independent and objective assessment of these materials and any others available at the time.”

The first episode of Channel 4 documentary series Miners’ Strike 1984: The Battle for Britain will air at 9pm on Thursday, January 25.
