The Brothers Sun star Justin Chien has taken to social media to show his appreciation for fans and the show’s team following its cancellation at Netflix.
The actor, who starred alongside Michelle Yeoh and Sam Song Li in the action-comedy-drama, wrote on Instagram Saturday, “To all the fans of The Brothers Sun, Thank you for riding with us on this labor of love. It will take some time to digest this news, but I want to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for your love and support for the show. Thank you for every post, tweet, edit, interaction, etc. It fills me with so much joy knowing that the show resonated with so many people. Your love made all of our collective work, sacrifices, and heartache, worth it.”
The Hollywood Reporter learned Friday that The Brothers Sun would not be returning for a second season, months after the series premiered on Jan. 4. Netflix has not shared a reason for the cancellation.
Chien continued to acknowledge the “incredible” team behind the show, including the creators, writers, stunt coordinators and his fellow castmembers.
“I’d like to thank Brad Falchuk, Byron Wu, Kevin Tancharoen, Jenny Jue, Viet Nguyen, Justin Yu, our incredible team of writers, the folks at Teleyvision, John Radulovic, our KICKASS crew, and our stunt team warriors for giving their blood, sweat, and tears to make the best show possible. Our show wouldn’t have been the same without their new grey hairs and sleepless nights,” he wrote. “Mama Sun, Sam, my fellow cast mates — TBS Family forever. thank you all.”
The actor lastly thanked several Netflix executives for “giving our story a platform and giving me the opportunity to play a dream role,” as well as their “labor behind the scenes and support throughout the process.”
Chien concluded his post, “Thank you all for your love. Without you, this wouldn’t mean nearly as much as it does. I gave everything I had to this show, and I can’t wait to do the same in the next project, whatever, whenever it may be — I promise I will give it my all. Love, Chairleg.”
Brothers Sun, created by Brad Falchuk and Byron Wu, followed Charles Sun (Chien), a Taipei gangster who had settled into his life as a ruthless killer, but when his father is shot by a mysterious assassin, he must move to Los Angeles to protect his mother and younger brother.
