Chris Evans has heard the rumors of a possible Avengers reunion in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s next phase, but no one’s approached him about it thus far.

The Pain Hustlers star made an appearance on The View on Monday, where he discussed the rumors and if he’d ever return to his role of Captain America.

“You know, I always see those reports too, and it’s news to me,” Evans said on the daytime talk show. “I think every couple months, someone says that they’re getting [Robert] Downey [Jr.] and [Chris] Hemsworth and Scarlett [Johansson], and everyone’s coming back!”

The actor didn’t outright rule out potentially donning the Cap uniform again, but he did point out that the storyline would have to be something important.

“No one’s spoken to me about it,” he continued. “And look, I would never say never, but I really — I’m very protective. It’s a very precious role to me, so it would have to be just right.”

While the Ghosted star isn’t sure if he’d want to be a part of Marvel’s next phase, he did admit that there are some things he misses about the MCU.

“It’s just intrinsically cool to be a superhero,” he said. “It’s very fun to play make-believe and live out your childhood dreams, but the friendships are so fantastic. It’s not just the cast, which [are] some of my best friends in the world but the crew. You know these people so well, and you get to see them every six, eight months or so.”

The Lightyear voice star portrayed Captain America/Steve Rogers in 11 Marvel Studios films beginning with 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, all the way through 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, including cameos in Spider-Man: Homecoming and Thor: The Dark World.

Rogers’ final appearance in the MCU, as of this point, came in Endgame, which saw him return to the present day as an elderly man after going back in time to live out his life with Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell).

Evans’ return to the role would be a bit complicated, seeing as Anthony Mackie’s Sam Wilson is the new Captain America and will star in his own film, Brave New World, following the events of Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
