Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa entered the league’s concussion protocol on Monday and is questionable for Sunday’s road game against the New England Patriots, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Tagovailoa, 24, missed three games earlier this season when he went down with a concussion in back-to-back games.

He was first hit on September 25 against the Buffalo Bills. Four days later, in a loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, Tagovailoa scared Miami fans when he went into the fencing response.

The team’s poor handling of Tagovailoa’s injury sent the league into a frenzy trying to avoid anything similar from happening again.

Dolphins won one and lost two in that span of time without their QB1. Given the previous circumstances, it’s safe to assume that Tagovailoa is out for the season.

The Tua Tagovailoa rule

The NFL and NFLPA promptly implemented a new rule into its concussion protocol. Players who exhibit “gross motor instability” on the field have to leave the game.

Dolphins (8-7) have two more games remaining this season, both against 7-8 teams in the AFC East looking to steal Miami’s playoff spot.

After facing the Patriots, Miami will host the New York Jets, who will be fighting for their postseason berth.

Without Tagovailoa, it’s unlikely that the Dolphins will be able to win, especially since they’re currently on a four-game skid.
