Who is Abdul Awil ?
A man who beat and raped a woman while forbidding her to eat or drink and locked her in a room for four days has been jailed for 22 years.
Abdul Awil abused the victim between approximately September 28 and October 1 of last year, at a property in Kensington, west London.
The 29-year-old was sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Friday.
Detectives said Awil “took advantage of a vulnerable woman who trusted him and subjected her to such violence that no human being should have to endure.”
Investigation
The victim said that Awil attacked the woman he knew in the house when she came home from birthday celebrations and forced her into a room.
He repeatedly assaulted her, knocking her unconscious and forbidding her to eat or drink.
Finally, he sought refuge in the home of a family member after four days and his cousin called an ambulance.
The London Ambulance Service (LAS) called police at an address in Kensington on Friday, October 2, 2020.
Police Detective Gemma Harkin, who led the investigation, said: ‘Awil, at all times, has denied responsibility for his actions.
He took advantage of a vulnerable woman who trusted him and subjected her to such violence that no human being should ever have to endure.
Victim
“The victim has shown immense courage in coming forward and we hope that he will find some comfort in the sentence handed down.
“ I urge all victims to speak to us. We have specially trained officers who work closely with partner organizations to provide appropriate support.
“Please do not suffer in silence; we are here to help and will do everything we can to pursue prosecutions and achieve justice.”
Awil was convicted of intentionally serious bodily injury, false imprisonment, and two counts of rape. He was also issued a lifetime restraining order.
