Nantucket Film Festival 2024 Lineup, Honorees Including Inside Out 2

The Nantucket Film Festival has set the lineup for its 2024 edition and will honor The Morning Show writer-producer Kerry Ehrin, Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Roger Ross Williams and Girls5Eva showrunner Meredith Scardino.

The 29th edition of the festival will open with Josh Margolin’s June Squibb starrer Thelma, close with Ian Bonhôte and Peter Ettedgui’s Christopher Reeve documentary Super/Man and Jeff Zimbalist’s documentary Skywalkers: A Love Story, about a daredevil couple who secretly filmed themselves climbing the world’s last super skyscraper. The festival will also continue its tradition of screening a Disney or Pixar film on its opening day, with a festival screening of Inside Out 2.

The festival also announced several honorees: Ehrin will receive the Excellence in Television Writing Award; Williams will receive the Career Achievement in Filmmaking Award and his latest feature Stamped From the Beginning, based on the book of the same name by Ibram X. Kendi, will screen at the festival followed by a conversation between Williams and Kendi; and Scardino will receive the New Voices in Television Writing Award, presented by Girls5Eva star Paula Pell.

Other films screening in this year’s lineup, consisting of more than 60 features and short films, include Sean Wang’s Dìdi; Susanna Fogel’s Winner; Chris Smith’s Devo; Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and Trish Dalton’s Diane Von Furstenberg doc Woman in Charge; Nanette Burstein’s Elizabeth Taylor: The Lost Tapes; Gary Hustwit’s Eno, about visionary musician and artist Brian Eno; and Dawn Porter’s Luther Vandross film Never Too Much.

NFF has added a NextGen Program this year, consisting of films with appeal for millennial and Gen Z audiences. And it’s bringing back, for the third year in a row, its Green Carpet Cinema Program, featuring environment-focused films.

“This year’s slate of films continues to celebrate bold and independent voices close to home and across the world,” senior programmer Basil Tsiokos and lead programmer Anita Raswant said in a statement. “We invite our audiences to explore a wide range of work that honors the power of storytelling — and in turn, our shared humanity over the course of our six-day, highly curated festival.”

Nantucket Film Festival executive director Mystelle Brabbée added: “Since its inception in 1996, NFF has aimed to foster a space that showcases and celebrates the work of incredible storytellers in film and television, and this year is no exception. We are thrilled to introduce our curated lineup of films, events, and artists to our audiences on the Island come summer. As captivating as our on-screen experiences are, we are equally excited to highlight the power of storytelling off-screen through our signature programs featuring engaging live discussions and events with acclaimed screenwriters and filmmakers.”

The 29th edition of the Nantucket Film Festival is set to run from June 19-24.
