Today, Chelsea Roffey will line up for her 300th game for Collingwood and Port Adelaide’s clash, just the 8th goal umpire and first woman to ever achieve the feat.
Roffey was the first woman to goal umpire a grand final in 2012, between Sydney and Hawthorn, and has adjudicated 16 finals.
Here, she talks to this masthead about how hard she had to work at the beginning of her career, and the extra pressure she felt to represent her gender as the only female goal umpire in the league.
“Some of the earlier hurdles, man, I had to work pretty hard to make sure that I was … fit and able to hold my own ground,” said Roffey.
