John Harbaugh, head coach of the Baltimore Ravens, said that even though his star quarterback Lamar Jackson is progressing well, it’s a fair assumption to make that Tyler Huntley will start the Week 17’s Sunday Night Football game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, meaning Jackson will miss his fourth straight game.
Jackson, who’s on the last year of his rookie contract, injured his knee in the Week 13 game against the Denver Broncos and hasn’t been able to practice since.
It makes sense that the Ravens don’t want to rush Lamar back to the field too soon, specially since they clinched a playoff berth with their win last week against the Falcons.
Despite that, many believe that rather than saving Lamar for the playoffs, the team might use him in the last game of the season, as they face the Cincinnati Bengals, in a game that could be a winner-take-all contest for the AFC North division title.
Ravens offense has struggled without Lamar Jackson
The Ravens offense has been under command of backup quarterback Tyler Huntley for the past three and a half games, with the QB averaging 129.3 passing yards, 5.8 per attempt, which ranks him 42nd out of 44 eligible quarterbacks with over 90 pass attempts.
Baltimore is averaging just 11.5 points per game with Huntley at the helm.
Despite that, his head coach said that Huntley’s ability to guide the offense doesn’t surprise him, saying is the thing that impresses him the most and they expect him to play well.
“He doesn’t surprise you because he does in games what he does in practice. It’s never too big for him. He operates well, he makes plays while he’s under pressure, duress, he manages the situations of games well. I just love the way he plays the position. I think he continues to improve every time he goes out. It’s Tyler. We’re past that. We’re not at ‘What surprises you? What impress you?’ We expect him to play well.”
