For Northwestern, $790 million could be at stake.

In a statement, NU says it has not been told anything official by the White House, but that the funds at stake are critical.

According to the school, these funds support innovative and life-saving research projects, such as the creation of the smallest pacemaker in the world and progress in combating Alzheimer’s disease.

The university expressed concern stating, “This crucial research is now in danger. We have cooperated fully with inquiries from the Department of Education and Congress.”

Northwestern has faced questions over its handling of pro-Palestinian demonstrations last year, and how it has policed antisemitism on campus.

As reported by The New York Times, the suspension of funding at Northwestern includes grants and agreements with various government departments, including Agriculture, Defense, Education, and Health and Human Services.

ABC7 has reached out to the White House and the Department of Education for comment, but did not immediately hear back.
