St. Louis Cardinals slugger Albert Pujols joined the exclusive 700 home run club and is on pace to surpass MLB legend Babe Ruth if he decides to play another year.

Pujols, 42, hit a couple of home runs Friday night against the Los Angeles Dodgers to go from No. 698 to 700.

He joins Barry Bonds (762), Hank Aaron (755) and Babe Ruth (714) as the only players in league history to hit over 700 homers.

The home runs gave Pujols 21 this year and is on pace to surpass Ruth should he decide not to retire when the season ends.

Pujols also joined Aaron (20) and Bonds (19) as the only sluggers in AL/NL history with at least 18 seasons of 20 or more home runs.

Cardinals thrashing Dodgers

Pujols batted in all five runs by the fourth inning and Cardinals extended their lead to 8-0 by the top of the sixth.

St. Louis went on to get an 11-0 win in the first of three consecutive games at Dodger Stadium.

Cardinals (89-63) are in first place of the NL Central and Los Angeles (104-47) remain atop the NL West.

Pujols is just one of multiple elite athletes who have played for decades and fans will no longer get to enjoy.
