The upcoming Blumhouse film Drop is set to hit theaters this Friday and is gaining attention for being potentially the first horror movie based on AirDrop technology. It’s refreshing to see a movie that stays current with pop culture trends!
Directed by horror veteran Christopher Landon, known for successful films like the Paranormal Activity and Happy Death Day series, Drop features White Lotus actress Meghann Fahy as a single mother who finds herself in a dangerous situation after receiving mysterious AirDrop messages on her iPhone during a date. These messages demand her obedience and secrecy, threatening the lives of her younger sister (Violett Beane) and young son (Jacob Robinson).
The movie also stars Brandon Sklenar, Reed Diamond, Ben Pelletier, Gabrielle Ryan, Jeffery Self, Ed Weeks, and Travis Nelson. Drop promises to deliver an enjoyable and slightly absurd horror experience that can offer a break from real-life worries. Curious about where to catch the Drop movie and when it might be available for streaming on Peacock? Keep reading to find out!
Drop will only available to watch in a movie theater, when it opens in the U.S. on Friday, April 11 in theaters nationwide. You can find a showing near you via Fandango. Drop is not yet available to watch online or on streaming.
Drop is not streaming on Netflix, and likely will not be on Netflix any time soon, due to the fact that the film is a Universal release. Almost all Universal movies go to the NBCUniversal streaming platform, Peacock.
You will be able to purchase Drop on Prime Video eventually, when the movie becomes available to buy and rent on digital, but you will not be able to stream Drop for free on Prime Video any time soon, because it is not a Prime original movie. If you want to watch the Drop movie at home, you’ll have to wait for the film to be available to buy or rent on digital platforms, or wait for it to stream on Peacock.
Drop is not yet streaming on Peacock. Right now, the movie is only in theaters. That said, we do expect to see Drop streaming on Peacock eventually, but we’re not sure when. Another Universal release, Wolf Man, will be streaming on Peacock on April 18, which was about three months after the movie opened in theaters, and about two months after the film released on digital.
If Drop follows a similar release pattern, you might see the movie on digital by May 2025, and streaming on Peacock around August 2025.
This is all speculation. Universal has not had a consistent digital release strategy. Nosferatu, for example, took just two months to stream on Peacock, rather than three. So it’s possible you’ll see Drop streaming on Peacock by July. But if you want to watch the Drop movie right away, your best bet is to catch the movie in theaters.
