An Ohio man who allegedly killed his 13-year-old daughter last month was booked into jail on Wednesday, weeks after he was shot during his arrest.
Darnell Jones, aged 33, chose not to have an arraignment hearing for felonious assault just one day after being taken into Franklin County jail, as reported by The Toledo Blade. He faces assault charges for reportedly brandishing a firearm at Columbus police officers during his arrest on March 25, resulting in officers shooting him.
The Blade reported that Jones underwent surgery following the shooting.
In Lucas County, Jones is accused of murder and third-degree felony abduction following the disappearance of his daughter, Kei’mani Latigue, from their Toledo residence on March 17. Tragically, Latigue was discovered deceased in a burnt house on March 24. The county coroners determined she had sustained multiple incised neck wounds on the day she died, March 24. Columbus police Lieutenant Brian Steel disclosed that she had been sexually assaulted, her hands amputated, and her throat nearly severed.
On the same day Latigue’s body was found, Jones became wanted for child abduction in an active warrant. Jones previously claimed that he last saw Latigue on March 16 after she phoned him expressing fear of being alone at home. Nonetheless, law enforcement officials reported inconsistencies in Jones’ statements regarding his interactions with his daughter and her whereabouts.
As CrimeOnline previously reported, state officials say they will review child services’ handling of abuse allegations that surfaced before Latigue’s disappearance.
Jones will be brought to Lucas County, where a court hearing on the murder and abduction charges is scheduled for April 25.
