Many consider Lionel Messi to be the best soccer player of all time. So it isn’t surprising that some will risk it all just to capture a memory with the Argentinian striker. And that’s exactly what happened in the second half of Argentina’s victory (3-0) over Jamaica at Red Bull Arena on Tuesday night.

A fan in Harrison, New Jersey, jumped on the field and past security and headed straight towards Messi holding his cell phone in one hand. The officials promptly stopped the play when they spotted the fan and a lone security guard invade the pitch.

The fan in question slipped on the humid field right as he was inches away from Messi, and he was soon tackled by over 5 security guards. A Jamaican international player then made a comment to the PSG striker, which prompted him to chuckle. In any case, the fan brought Messi luck, as he then went on to score two goals (86′, 89′) to seal the win for Argentina.

Three separate pitch invaders ran towards Messi

In what many were calling “a record”, the fan above was only one of three people that invaded the field throughout the game, which Argentina calmly dominated. At 35 years of age, Messi’s starpower shines as bright as ever.

In one instance, a fan even handed Messi a sharpie and asked him to sign his back. Messi proceeded with giving him the autograph, and a security guard tackled the fan and almost took Messi down with him as well. Luckily, the ex Barcelona star was unharmed.
