Coachella attendees desperately seek shelter after battling near record-breaking heat: 'We are dying!'

Coachella attendees have been desperately seeking shelter after battling near record-breaking heat.

The famous event held in Indio, California, spans two weekends and draws over 100,000 music enthusiasts annually, including top celebrities like Taylor Swift and Jeff Bezos.

The star-studded lineup for 2025 includes performers Lady Gaga, Charli xcx, Green Day, Post Malone and Megan Thee Stallion.

Despite the thrilling atmosphere, attendees have had to deal with exceptionally high temperatures, leading some to seek advice on the ideal places to seek refuge.

As the gates opened on Friday, also known as ‘day zero’ for festival attendees, temperatures soared to a remarkable 101 degrees, coming close to the region’s record high of 106 degrees recorded back in 1904.

The highs for Saturday and Sunday, which will round out weekend one, are set to reach 97 and 95 degrees respectively.

Taking to Reddit’s official Coachella thread with a post titled ‘day zero heat,’ one attendee shared: ‘How are we staying cool this day zero? We are dying!’

Another wrote: ‘Hiding from the sun. Anyone found any good options for taking a break from the heat during the day?’

Elsewhere, others claimed they had already decided to ‘check out’ of drinking due to the heat making them feel sick.

Coachella’s official website urges people to make use of the free water stations during their time in the desert, writing: ‘Stay hydrated.

‘Bring an empty plastic refillable water bottle to fill at any number of our free water refill stations.’

DailyMail.com has reached out to organizers for further comment.

Amid the soaring temperatures at the festival, doctors have spoken to FEMAIL about how to stay properly hydrated and avoid heatstroke.

‘The combination of high temperatures, sun exposure, alcohol, dancing, and not drinking enough water adds up fast,’ Dr. Logan G. Galbraith at Invigor Medical in Washington told DailyMail.com exclusively.

‘People often don’t realize how much fluid they’re losing until symptoms hit,’ Dr. Galbraith continued. ‘These are activities that people are not doing everyday and their baseline hydration may not be able to keep up.’

He noted that when it comes to the festival, there are a few ‘basics’ that will go a long way, including what you wear.

‘Drink water consistently — not just when you feel thirsty. Take breaks in the shade or in a cooling tent. Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing and a hat,’ he offered.

‘Don’t ignore early signs like dizziness or nausea — those are your body’s red flags.’

Dr. Suzanne Jagger, the founder of Aura Aesthetics in Portland, Oregon, even recommended that Coachella-goers carry keep electrolyte packets on them at all times.

‘Electrolyte packets or sports drinks are lifesavers out there,’ Dr. Jagger, who has been a medical professional for over 20 years, told DailyMail.com.

‘They help replace the salt and minerals you lose while sweating. Also bring sunscreen, a refillable water bottle and maybe even a portable fan or cooling towel,’ she suggested.’

But unfortunately, heatstroke isn’t the only thing you need to keep an eye out for during the weekend.

The doctor also warned that there are other health problems that can arise at Coachella if you’re not careful.

‘Sunburn is a big one and it can get severe fast,’ she admitted.

‘Allergies or asthma can also flare up with all the dust. Other common issues could include foot blisters, exhaustion or even things like alcohol poisoning if you’re not careful,’ the doctor continued.

‘Coachella is fun, but your body still needs care!’
