Aurora High School graduate Shyanne Sellers drafted 17th by Golden State Valkyries in 2025 WNBA Draft

The 21-year-old is the daughter of former NBA player and current Warrensville Heights Mayor Brad Sellers.

Shyanne Sellers, a talented basketball athlete hailing from Aurora, has been chosen as the 17th overall pick by the Golden State Valkyries in the 2025 WNBA Draft in New York City, N.Y.

Sellers, a graduate of Aurora High School, has made a name for herself as a player with the University of Maryland Terrapins. 

Throughout her time in college, she received several prestigious awards, such as multiple All-Big Ten recognitions and was named a finalist for the WBCA Division I Coaches All-America in 2024.

Her outstanding senior year was highlighted by a remarkable performance, making her the first player in Maryland’s basketball history to achieve over 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists.

At Aurora High School, Sellers led her team to multiple league championships and set the school’s all-time scoring record. 

She was named the Suburban League American Conference Player of the Year for three consecutive years and was a finalist for Miss Ohio Basketball as a junior. 

Sellers averaged 21.9 points, 10.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists in her senior season, helping her team reach the Division I district semifinals.

After being selected in the WNBA Draft, the Aurora High School Girls Basketball team took to X to congratulate Sellers.

“Way to go Shy!!! Greenmen Nation is beyond proud of you. Road trip to San Francisco anyone?? 17th pick of the draft to the Golden State Valkyries.”

The 21-year-old is the daughter of former NBA player and current Warrensville Heights Mayor Brad Sellers. 

Her father played six seasons in the NBA after being drafted in the first round by the Chicago Bulls in 1986.
