ORLANDO, Fla. – In an Orlando neighborhood, various items like tires, trash, a bathtub, and even a personal watercraft have been illegally dumped on the side of a road.

Fed up with the sight and the smell, one resident turned to News 6 for help.

A report came in to the News 6 Results Desk highlighting the issue of illegal dumping near the Boggy Creek area in Orlando. According to the report, both local residents and external junk removal companies have been disposing of hazardous materials like used tires and furniture.

News 6 anchor Ginger Gadsden decided to investigate the situation on Pine St., close to South Orange Ave., near the Taft area. During her visit, she encountered two brothers who had taken it upon themselves to clean up the area and transport the waste to the landfill.

“You probably have dead animals from eating the chemicals. Usually when we do these jobs we suit up,” said Bora Boracic. He and his brother, Belmin, have their own valet trash and junk removal company, but voluntarily clean up illegal dumping sites.

They told News 6 that illegal dumping has become a problem in Central Florida and in the United States.

“We get calls on a daily basis,” said Boracic, “These problems are everywhere, behind plazas, behind hotels.”

There had been confusion on whether this was under Orange County’s jurisdiction. News 6 emailed Orange County to see if anything can be done to get results, possibly with signage, but a spokesperson said the area is under the City of Orlando’s jurisdiction. News 6 emailed the city this afternoon and has not yet heard back.

“It’s the City Beautiful for a reason and with stuff like this, it dims the shine,” said Belmin Boracic.
