Katie Thurston’s Biggest Fear Is ‘Dying’

Thurston was a guest on the April 17 episode of Emmanuel Acho’s “Uncomfortable Conversations” podcast and shared how she felt as she battled breast cancer.
She admitted per E! News, “There is this constant measurement of time of like, ‘Okay how long do people take this medication for? How long until my next scan to see what’s happening?'”
Thurston continued, “It’s so confusing because truly we are all dying. Every day is a gift, but there’s something so heavy about a diagnosis that makes you feel like you’re constantly looking over your shoulder.”
Thurston admitted that her prognosis made other people believe her time on earth is short, and that was affecting how she felt.

Katie Thurston Grateful For Husband’s Support

One of the things Thurston is grateful for amid her battle with breast cancer is her husband, Jeff Arcuri. The pair officially became a couple in March, and Arcuri has been solidly behind his wife as she tries to beat the disease.
Thurston noted, “We got this diagnosis in less than a year of being together. And it’s been such a strong and healthy bond that him and I have.”
She continued, “There’s almost this sense of relief or protection that’s like, ‘Everything you thought about this love is accurate.'”
The 34-year-old has never shied away from letting the world know how much her husband loves her. During an interview with Us Weekly, she revealed that it was Arcuri’s decision for them to tie the knot quickly amid her breast cancer battle.

Thurston Freezes Her Eggs
After Thurston’s cancer diagnosis, she and Arcuri knew they would spend the rest of the year battling the disease.
Hence, they decided to freeze their embryos in the event that her cancer treatment negatively impacted her fertility. Thurston kept her fans updated on her egg freezing process, revealing that 17 eggs were retrieved.
She also revealed, “Of the 17, only 6 were successfully fertilized. But then they have to make it to the blastocyst stage. Only three made it. And after genetic testing, we have 2 embryos we were able to freeze, one Grade B and one Grade C. This is the reality of IVF.”

She wrote on her Instagram Stories, “Jeff and I discussed the importance of my health and that when the time comes, surrogacy will likely be the best option for us. A friendly reminder to stop judging celebrities who pursue surrogacy because you don’t know what they have going on in their personal lives.”
Thurston’s Breast Cancer Journey
Katie Thurston first noticed a small lump in her breast in the summer of 2024, initially brushing it off as hormonal or workout related. Having previously had a benign cyst removed at 20, she wasn’t alarmed. However, the lump didn’t go away.
“Went to the doc thinking it was going to be nothing,” she shared. “I was wrong.” After undergoing a breast ultrasound, mammogram, and biopsy, Thurston was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer on February 13, 2025.
During an appearance on “Good Morning America,” she called it “the worst feeling I’ve ever felt,” revealing she had no family history and was stunned by the news.
On February 15, she shared her diagnosis with fans, describing a wave of emotions from despair to determination.
