The United States are just a few days away from playing their 2022 World Cup opener in Qatar. The Americans will face Wales next Monday and it remains to be seen who will be named captain.
Coach Gregg Berhalter has yet to choose who will be in charge of leading the national team in Qatar, the player who will wear the armband throughout the competition.

Who is the USMNT captain?
Whereas most teams have already named their captain long ago, we still don’t actually know who the USMNT captain is.
So, let’s take a look at a few of the most logical choice to take the armband.
Pulisic’s dream of being Captain America
Perhaps the most logical choice would be Chelsea forward Christian Pulisic.
He in contention to become the USMNT leader in Qatar because, despite not getting many opportunities at the Blues, he is a key player for the national team.
However, there are those who question whether he is capable of being the leader that this team need, especially when there are other options with more experience.
Yedlin offers himself
One of the few players with World Cup experience is DeAndre Yedlin. The Inter Miami right-back acknowledged that USMNT are a very young team.
“Obviously, this team is a lot younger and nobody in this group has World Cup experience, but a lot of have experience at huge tournaments around the world,” Yedlin said.
“A lot of these guys have experience in very big games. It’s been great to come in and help be a leader on this team.”
The midfielder option
Another option Berhalter could consider is to name a midfielder as captain, with players such as Juventus’ Weston McKennie or Leeds United’s Tyler Adams being candidates.
Both have international experience, having competed in the Champions League with the Old Lady and RB Leipzig, respectively.
