It has been confirmed that Raymond Blanco, a former football coach and dean of students, died on Saturday in Lafayette, Louisiana. His wife, Kathleen, was Louisiana’s governor.

His age was 87. A statement was released by Gov. John Bel Edwards in the wake of Blanco’s passing.

The moment you meet some people, they make a lasting impression on you. Coach was one of them. His late wife, Gov. Kathleen Babineaux Blanco, also shared Coach’s commitment to social justice and educational opportunities for all.

While our state has lost a great man, Coach’s death has brought him and Ben back together again.

Raymond Coach Blanco, longtime UL administrator and former First Gentleman of Louisiana, has died. 

He was 87. There is no information on Raymond Blanco’s cause of death. It has been reported that he died from natural causes.

Who is Raymond Coach Blanco?

His wife was the first female governor of Louisiana, Kathleen Babineaux Blanco.

He served as a football coach at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette before becoming its dean. He served as dean of men, dean of students, and dean of student personnel. In 2009, he retired from his position as vice president for Student Affairs, the university said.
