Teen arrested for allegedly assaulting teacher, student with Stanley cup at Buchtel CLC in Akron

Akron police say the teacher was taken to the hospital for treatment.

In Akron, a 16-year-old girl was taken into custody on a Thursday morning at Buchtel CLC after allegedly hitting a 55-year-old teacher and a 15-year-old girl on the head with a Stanley cup.

Akron police say it was around 8 a.m. when a school resource officer responded to a fight involving two students in the girls’ restroom.

“As the altercation escalated, a teacher entered to intervene,” according to a press release issued by the Akron Police Department on Friday morning.

That’s when the alleged assault happened with the Stanley cup.

Both victims sustained injuries during the altercation, with the teacher requiring hospital treatment. However, details regarding the severity of their injuries were not disclosed.

The student arrested in the incident was charged with felonious assault and disorderly conduct.

Akron Police Lieutenant Michael Murphy emphasized the seriousness with which incidents of school violence are treated by the department, highlighting the collaborative efforts with Akron Public Schools to ensure the safety of both students and staff.
