United States Anti-Doping (USADA) director of communications Averi Walker has claimed that it is unlikely that Conor McGregor will be eligible for an exception from re-entering the drug testing pool.

According to the USADA rules, McGregor must be in the pool for six months in order to be given the green light to book his next fight. It has to be noted that he has not stepped into a ring since July 2021, when he suffered a serious injury during his bout against Dustin Poirier.

McGregor is not enrolled in our testing pool and would have to be for six months unless an exception is granted, which we do not think would be applicable,” Walker told ESPN in an email.

Return to be delayed

This means that McGregor‘s return may be delayed for six months in the event he is not granted an exemption. In order to be given the green light, he should pass two drug tests before making his comeback.

“I am clear for testing in February,” the Irishman tweeted last week.

“I will complete my two tests per USADA and we are booking a fight.”

UFC president Dana White had previously claimed that the 34-year-old MMA fighter will not be eligible to return to action for six months.
