Shell Casings, Fingerprints Match in CEO Murder Case, Cops Say

New York prosecutors are presenting evidence to a grand jury in last week’s fatal shooting of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson.

Luigi Mangiano, who is 26 years old, is accused of second-degree murder in Thompson’s case. He is currently resisting being sent to New York as he is dealing with gun charges in Pennsylvania. According to sources from ABC News, prosecutors are working on getting an indictment to help in Mangiano’s extradition.

Though prosecutors would not say what evidence they are presenting to the grand jury, police said three shell cases — with the words “delay,” “deny,” and “depose” printed on them — match the gun Mangiano was found with when he was arrested in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on Monday.

Fingerprints on a water bottle and Kind bar discovered at the crime scene were reportedly also linked to Mangione.

Mangione was apprehended at a McDonald’s in Altoona after an employee believed he resembled widely publicized photos of Thompson’s alleged killer and called the police.

In addition to allegedly having a gun with a silencer and fake IDs, Mangione reportedly also had a two-page manifesto that decried the healthcare industry as “parasites.” Shortly after Mangione’s arrest, New York officials held a press coverage in which they hinted at the motive in Thompson’s murder. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny said Mangione, a data engineer with a master’s from the University of Pennsylvania, “has some ill will towards corporate America.”

Mangione remains jailed without bail in Pennsylvania.
