Brock Purdy, known as “Mr.Irrelevant” for being the last pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, made his first career start on Sunday in a San Francisco 49ers home game against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Purdy, 22, made his father cry in the stands of Levi’s Stadium after scoring a rushing touchdown to extend his side’s lead.

The rookie quarterback replaced the injured Jimmy Garoppolo (out for the season) last week against the Miami Dolphins, finishing with 210 passing yards, two touchdowns and one interception on 25-for-37 completions.

There was a lot of hype surrounding Purdy ahead of the clash with Tampa Bay, but he lived up to the expectations.

He finished the game against Brady with 185 yards and two TDs through the air on 16-for-21 completed passes, plus the rushing score.

Brock Purdy looked like the veteran against Tom Brady

The 35-7 San Francisco victory had a lot to do with its defense shutting down Brady.

Brady, 45, finished the match with 253 passing yards, a single TD and two INTs on 34-for-55 completions, looking like the rookie against Purdy.

Niners running back Christian McCaffrey rushed 14 times for 119 yards and a touchdown on the ground, plus another on a pass from “Mr. Irrelevant.”

Deebo Samuel left the game with an injury a few plays after rushing for the opening score of the game.
