An 18-year-old British teenager has been imprisoned in Dubai due to a romantic relationship during his holiday and is now requesting to be able to go back to his home country.
Marcus Fakana received a 12-month sentence and is finding it difficult to handle the situation while he awaits an appeal after being granted bail.
His arrest took place after he engaged in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old British girl whom he had met while on vacation in Dubai, where any sexual activity with an individual under the age of 18 is against the law.
Marcus, from Tottenham, North London, said: “I couldn’t wait to see her again. But police knocked on my hotel door.
“Every day here is difficult. My family and I are devastated and in shock.
“I never intended to break the law.
“It didn’t occur to me at the time and for that, I’m sorry.
“I am asking His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Al Maktoum to please forgive and pardon me.
“Please give me my life back. Let me go home.”
The teen, from Tottenham, North London has apologised to the ruler of the Gulf city.
