Two of the most polarizing and radical individuals in the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), have differing stances on a crucial matter, as reported by Punchbowl News.
AOC evidently thinks she’s ready for bigger things and wants to be the top Democrat on the Oversight Committee in the new Congress, but Pelosi has other ideas. The two have long been seen to be maintaining a fraught though outwardly cordial relationship, but you can imagine Nance was none too happy to see the much younger representative waltz into Congress in 2018 with her large media following and loud opinions.
If you’ve ever been to high school, you know how these situations can progress.
Pelosi is said to be backing a different horse, one who has served quite a bit longer than AOC:
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) is facing strong headwinds – including opposition from House Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) – as she tries to become the top Democrat on the House Oversight Committee.
Why it matters: Senior Democrats say that while Ocasio-Cortez is seen as the favorite over Rep. Gerry Connolly (D-Va.), the race is still in play.
The fight comes as several septuagenarian committee ranking members are facing desperate battles against – or yielding to – younger challengers.
“Many members are concerned about [the] precedent these races are setting,” one senior House Democrat told Axios.

Pelosi has been actively leaning on House members to take her side and vote for the 74-year-old Connolly, who has served in the House since 2009:
What we’re hearing: Pelosi has been approaching colleagues urging them to back Connolly over Ocasio-Cortez, according to two House Democrats with direct knowledge of her outreach.
Connolly, 74, and Ocasio-Cortez, 35, are facing off to replace current Oversight Committee ranking member Jamie Raskin (D-Md.).
Punchbowl News was first to report Pelosi’s advocacy for Connolly. A Pelosi spokesperson did not offer a comment to Axios.
Truthfully, it’s hard to root for either Nancy Pelosi or AOC because each of them has despicable moments on their records:
“But.” Grotesque. What if some deranged person decides AOC’s words or votes are “acts of violence”? Would we get a “but” if he took a shot at her? Reject this. https://t.co/PmlBe99zdP

Here is the moment when Nancy Pelosi ripped up President @realDonaldTrump’s speech.
That was ripping up Janiyah’s dream of going to school.
That was ripping up the Hake family, who lost their dad because of terrorist Soleimani.
We will remember.pic.twitter.com/RIvcruJq9R#SOTU
