A body discovered in a Nevada lake last week has been identified as a man who vanished earlier this month, officials said.
Dr. Shawn Frehner’s body was discovered at the Boulder Islands in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area on April 18, as confirmed by the National Park Service. A week prior, on April 7, Frehner’s truck was found at Hemmenway Harbor within the park premises, with his personal belongings, including keys, phone, and wallet, left inside.
The 56-year-old Frehner was declared missing by his father on April 6, a day earlier than when his truck was located. His father informed the authorities that their last conversation on April 6 involved Frehner mentioning issues he was facing with one of the horses.
A day after the body was found at Lake Mead, it was identified as Frehner via dental records.
Prior to vanishing, a video circulated on social media depicting Frehner mistreating a young horse by kicking it, choking it with a lasso, and striking it in the face. Frehner later issued an apology for his actions, explaining that he was trying to help the horse breathe and prepare it for anesthesia, which led to the rough handling.
The Daily Mail reported that Frehner was facing felony animal abuse charges when he vanished. A cause of death has not been revealed.
