The French racing driver, Philippe Streiff, passed away on Friday, December 22. Former Formula One Grand Prix Driver was in a wheelchair after a brutal accident in 1989 and, due to this long ill condition, left the world yesterday, leaving France and the world of Formula One grieving. 

Who was Philippe Streiff?

Philippe Streiff, born on 26 June 1955 in La Tronche, Isère, France, was a Motorcars Racing Driver. He won the Motul Valant in 1977 at the Nogaro Driving School and decided to make his career with the Motorsports. 

He made his debut on October 21, 1984, in the Portuguese Grand Prix in Estoril, but he had to retire from that race because of a transmission failure. His career was short-lived but he participated in 55 Formula One Grand Prix and achieved one podium. 

He also scored 11 champion points during his career. The major part of his career was during the years 1984 to 1988, while he participated in 53 Grand Prix. He drove with the teams Renault, Ligier, Tyrrell, and AGS. His best performance was in the Australian Grand Prix at Adelaide, driving with Ligier. 

What happened with Philippe Streiff?

In 1989, at the Jacarepaguá circuit in Rio de Janeiro while driving with AGS, Philippe met with a serious accident that left him quadriplegic and hence, in a wheelchair cutting his career short in the Motorsports. 

In the accident, he suffered major injuries and a damaged spinal cord compelling him to spend the rest of his life in a wheel chair. 

Philippe Streiff Cause of Death?

Although short-lived, Streiff cherished his time in the motorsports career as it was something he always wished to pursue. 

His death occurred just three weeks after the death of another former Formula One driver Patrick Tambay leaving the world of Motorsports and Formula One in shock and grief.
