Canton woman faces charges for allegedly slamming 11-year-old girl's head at Stark County park

According to the police report, Destany Scott “did cause physical harm to the juvenile victim by hitting her head against a metal platform.”

CANTON, Ohio — A Canton woman is facing felony charges after allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old girl at Stark-Wayne Schrader Park last week.

Based on a report revealed by 3News, Canton police were called to respond to an assault incident on April 18th. The alleged suspect, identified as Destany Scott, had been accused of forcefully striking a juvenile’s head against a metal part of a slide at a park in Stark County.

According to the police report, the defendant “did cause physical harm to the juvenile victim by hitting her head against a metal platform.”

In addition, police allege the “defendant yelled threats at the victim’s mother and was attempting to assault her.”

After the suspect was detained and escorted off a porch, they became involved in a verbal argument with the mother of the assaulted child.

Scott was reported to have made threats towards the mother of the juvenile while still under arrest, expressing a desire for the death of her daughter. These menacing remarks were made during a heated exchange.

Reacting to the situation, the mother attempted to physically attack Scott, prompting the intervention of law enforcement officers. Subsequently, the mother was restrained, arrested, and placed inside a police vehicle.

Due to the circumstances surrounding the incident, including the head trauma sustained by her daughter, the mother was issued a summons for obstructing official business and disorderly conduct. She is scheduled to appear in court on May 2 at 9 a.m. in Canton Municipal Court.

On April 23, Scott was arrested on a warrant, transferred to Stark County Jail, and charged with felony counts of felonious assault and aggravated assault. In addition, she was previously charged on April 20 with misdemeanor charges of assault and disorderly conduct.

On April 24, Scott pleaded not guilty to the charges. The judge set her bond at $95,000, with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for April 28.
