The Happy Friar, which serves up the park’s fresh-cut fries on the Gemini Midway, is “expanding with a new façade and indoor serving line.”
The Happy Friar eatery will also feature an adjacent outdoor patio.
Before the renovation, Happy Friar at Cedar Point, which first opened its doors in 1979 following the launch of the Gemini racing coaster a year prior, had several walk-up windows where patrons could place their food orders.
Cedar Point has been serving fresh-cut fries as a traditional menu item for many years, tracing all the way back to 1942 when individual vendors ran their own food stands within the park, as noted by Clark.
Do you recall the Quaker Steak and Lube located near Castaway Bay just off Cleveland Road, right outside Cedar Point? This spot shut down at the end of January and has now been replaced by the new Famous Dave’s restaurant.
“This new location will be open all year and is undergoing an extensive renovation inside and out,” Cedar Point shared in a recent Facebook post, which you can see below. “Dine-in, order to-go or have it catered.”
“Serving award-winning ribs, dry-rubbed meats, signature sandwiches and burgers, pulled chicken, hickory-smoked brisket, salads and more, the new Famous Dave’s will be an anchor for the family of dining experiences outside the park’s gates,” according to Cedar Point.
So what does this mean for the former Famous Dave’s location at the Cedar Point Marina? We’re told there are currently no plans for the vacated space.
“There are no current plans for that location,” Clark said in an email, while noting the closure is due to a contract expiration.
Chickie’s & Pete’s, which is known for their signature Crabfries, first opened at Cedar Point in 2014 near the Blue Streak coaster entrance.
