Canadians could have chosen a new leader to bring about positive changes for Canada. Instead, they voted for a second term of Trudeau because they felt offended by Trump’s mocking comments. However, this decision may not have been in their best interest in the end.

The reason behind this choice might be attributed to Carney and the Liberals being seen as less assertive. Trump may find it easier to engage in negotiations with them because they are perceived as less of a threat. On the other hand, someone like Pierre Poilievre could have posed a tougher challenge in negotiations. Canadians may have missed out on a great opportunity.

On Monday, Mark Carney was declared the Prime Minister of Canada by CBC News and CTV News. Canadians have shown their support for the Liberal leader, granting him the authority to confront President Donald Trump’s tariffs and trade policies.
Carney cemented the Liberals’ fourth-straight term in government, a rare feat in Canadian politics — while holding back the Conservative Party led by Pierre Poilievre. The win shows that voters rejected Trump’s brand of populism — which Liberals argued Poilievre had come to represent.
