Eric Dane is gearing up for the release of his new TV show, Countdown, following the news of his ALS diagnosis.
Prime Video released the first look images of the thriller series on Tuesday, April 29, showing Dane alongside costar Jensen Ackles.
The upcoming series, which is scheduled to debut on Wednesday, June 25, revolves around the narrative of LAPD detective Mark Meachum (played by Ackles) who gets enlisted into a covert team of agents undercover following the murder of a Department of Homeland Security agent.
According to the official Prime Video description, “The pursuit of the murderer leads to the revelation of a far more malevolent scheme than anyone could have foreseen, initiating a race against the clock to rescue a city of millions.” The series was conceived and overseen by showrunner Derek Haas.
Stills of Dane in character were released weeks after he went public with his ALS diagnosis on April 10.
“I have received a diagnosis of ALS,” he announced in a released statement. “I am appreciative to have the support of my caring family as we journey through this upcoming phase.”
Dane continued, “I feel fortunate that I am able to continue working and am looking forward to returning to set of Euphoria next week. I kindly ask that you give my family and I privacy during this time.”
It’s unclear exactly when Dane received his diagnosis. However, the actor completed filming on Countdown last month.
“COUNTDOWN Season 1 complete. What a beautiful ride it has been these past 6 months. A brilliant crew, a fantastic cast and an absolutely wonderful experience,” Ackles, 47, captioned an Instagram post on March 15. “Thank you to Derek, JB, Marc, @primevideo and everyone who made this project a reality. I’ll see you all for season 2.”
Dane’s involvement in Countdown was announced in June 2024, with Deadline revealing that he was set to star as Nathan Blythe, the special agent in charge of the aforementioned task force.
His character was described as “military cut, trim, fit, and packing an imposing glare,” because of his longtime on the job.
“Though this isn’t his first task force he’s led, this one is different,” the Deadline description of his character read. “He carefully assembled and handpicked everyone on it and doesn’t hesitate to light a fire under them. He wants this solved by any means necessary.”
Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight and Uli Latukefu are also set to star.
The first three episodes of Countdown are set to premiere via Prime Video on Wednesday, June 25.
