Colorado couple whose child is battling cancer hit by cruel new tragedy after father went for motorcycle ride

A young Colorado father whose four-year-old daughter is battling cancer was killed in a devastating motorcycle crash.

Brian Licon, 25, died in the crash Wednesday morning, according to the Wheat Ridge Police Department.

The crash happened around 7:50 a.m. between Licon’s motorcycle and a car at the intersection of Sheridan Boulevard and West 32nd Avenue.

Police said Licon was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries and was pronounced dead there.

Photos from the scene show Licon’s crushed motorcycle lying on the road next to a silver car with a shattered windshield and dented front.

KDVR reports that the speed limit on the road where the accident took place is 35 mph. Destiny Garcia, who is Licon’s cousin, mentioned to the local news station that he was driving towards work in the southbound direction on Sheridan.

According to DailyMail.com, the authorities are still conducting an investigation into the incident. They have confirmed that the driver of the car involved in the crash stayed at the scene. There is no suspicion of drugs or alcohol being a factor for that driver.

‘We just got a phone call to go to the hospital where his family found out that he already passed,’ Garcia said.

Licon leaves behind his wife Rebecca and their two daughters, ages four and 11 months, according to a GoFundMe for the family.

Their four-year-old daughter was recently diagnosed with Leukemia, and his wife told DailyMail.com he was taken too soon.

‘I would like people to look twice to save a life. I wish people would really pay attention when driving. My husband was a loving man. He loved his children he would go out of his way for them,’ Rebecca said.

‘It’s very difficult at this time especially now having to deal with a sick child on my own along with a young baby.

‘I know he wasn’t ready to go yet, so I just ask is for people to please please please watch out for motorcyclists, they have people at home waiting for them.’

His loved ones said Licon was working hard to support his family while his daughter battles cancer.

‘He was a big support system for his wife. She had a baby, and after she delivered her second child, she found out that her first child was battling Leukemia,’ Garcia said.

‘He was a young kid and he had a lot on his plate, but he was a strong individual. I think he was more like being strong for his daughter.’

Licon’s family said he was a loving father and husband who treated others with kindness.

‘He was a Father, a son, a brother and an amazing friend. Brian was the most kind hearted person to anyone that crossed paths him,’ the GoFundMe said.

After the crash, Rebecca issued a plea on Facebook reminding drivers to be aware of their surroundings and courteous to people on motorcycles.

‘I just wanted to come on here to say look twice and save a life. Please, everyone, look out for motorcyclists. They have families and are loved, and everyone is safe when driving. There’s always someone waiting for you at home,’ she said.
