One of the first and most vocal women to speak out about Jeffrey Epstein’s sexual abuse of young girls has died.
Virginia Roberts Giuffre’s family initially reported that she had died by suicide, but her father is now calling for further investigation into her death. According to TMZ, Virginia had previously expressed that if she were to die by suicide, it should not be taken at face value.
Giuffre’s attorney told The Sun there were no signs she was contemplating suicide, saying, “There’s suicide and then there’s misadventure.”
There have been four individuals associated with the Epstein abuse scandal who are now deceased, including Jeffery Epstein himself. While Epstein’s death was ruled as a suicide in prison, there are persistent doubts surrounding the circumstances of his demise.
Epstein stands accused of sexually abusing numerous victims, allegedly coercing them into engaging in sexual activities with him at his New York mansion and his Palm Beach estate in Florida. These victims, all underage girls at the time of the alleged incidents, were reportedly given large sums of cash following each encounter, either directly from Epstein or from one of his associates.
The underage girls were initially recruited to provide Epstein with massages, and often did so nude or partially nude. These massages became increasingly sexual in nature, and would typically include one or more sex acts, as specified in the indictment. As alleged, Epstein also paid certain victims to recruit additional girls to be similarly abused. This allowed Epstein to create an ever-expanding web of new victims.
Giuffre was just 17 years old when she was recruited by Ghislaine Maxwell.
