NICU Nurse Has License Suspended After 7 Preemies Suffer Suspicious Bone Fractures at Hospital

On Thursday, Virginia officials suspended a woman’s nursing license as she faces criminal charges for abusing at multiple babies at a hospital.

The Virginia Board of Nursing has placed a temporary suspension on Erin Strotman, aged 26, until a scheduled hearing on July 23. Reports from WTVU revealed that Strotman was employed at the NICU of Henrico Doctors’ Hospital, where multiple infants experienced bone fractures and other concerning injuries prior to her arrest in January.

According to The Washington Post, further charges were brought against Strotman in March, although the specific details of the indictments were not disclosed until the end of April. The indictments presented a timeline alleging that Strotman had been mistreating infants for a period spanning two years.

Strotman had been working as a nurse at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital since 2019. WWBT stated that the hospital ceased admitting patients to the neonatal intensive care unit in December after three premature babies were identified as having sustained bone fractures. Subsequently, hospital officials pinpointed a total of seven infants who had been harmed while in the facility’s care.

Strotman was placed on administrative leave in September 2023. She was allowed to return to work a year later, in late 2024, though she was fired in January 2025 — the same day of her arrest

November 10 video footage reportedly showed Strotman force a 5-month-old boy’s feet to his head as he cried out. Medical staff later determined the baby suffered a fractured right femur and tibia and multiple fractured ribs, according to The Washington Post.

Strotman, who is charged with malicious wounding and felony child neglect, remains free on bond as she awaits a May court hearing. The Washington Post reported that Henrico Doctors’ Hospital reopened its NICU unit in February, sparking backlash.
