April showers bring May flowers, and we certainly had a lot of showers this past month

April 2025 saw a rainfall increase of nearly an inch compared to the usual amount for the month. Additionally, temperatures were slightly higher than average following a late warm period.

The temperature trend in Cleveland during April was notable: the initial half of the month experienced temperatures nearly 3 degrees below the average, while the latter half was considerably warmer.

Overall, the temperature for April at Cleveland Hopkins International Airport ended up being .02 degrees above the average. The warmer period consisted of three pleasant days with temperatures in the low 80s, and only four days had lows in the 20s throughout the month.

April showers were abundant! Hopkins came in with 4.72 inches of precipitation, which is basically an inch above average. Over half (16) of the April days had at least a trace of precipitation, however only five of those days happened during the second half of the month, as some drier days accompanied the warmer temperatures. There were two days that recorded heavy rainfall at Hopkins, with 1.13 inches on the 5th and 1.17 inches on the 25th.

There was some snow during the colder first half of the month: Four days in a row (April 6-9) had at least a trace of snow. And yet, that all only added up to 0.2 inches of snow at Hopkins. Hopefully that’s the last of the snow we see until much later in the year.

All of those April showers came with plenty of cloud cover. There were 16 “cloudy” days for the month, and only two days registered as “clear.” Both of those latter days occurred during the last week of the month.

The saying goes that “April showers bring May flowers.” Well, April brought plenty of showers, and a lot of flowers have been blooming. Those showers are continuing into the first part of May, with plenty of rain in the weekend forecast.
