WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump unexpectedly terminated Librarian of Congress Carla Hayden on Thursday, as part of the White House’s ongoing removal of government officials believed to be in opposition to the president and his policies.

The firing was revealed through statements from three prominent House Democrats. A source familiar with the situation, who chose to remain anonymous, confirmed the dismissal before it was officially announced.

Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro from Connecticut, who serves as the leading Democrat on the House Appropriations Committee, criticized Trump for the abrupt removal of Hayden and demanded that the administration provide a rationale for the decision.

“Dr. Hayden’s tenure has been marked by a steadfast commitment to accessibility, modernization, and the democratization of knowledge,” DeLauro said in a statement. “Her dismissal is not just an affront to her historic service but a direct attack on the independence of one of our most revered institutions.”
