UnitedHealthcare CEO killing suspect retains high-powered New York attorney

Luigi Mangione is the prime suspect in the homicide case involving Brian Thompson, the CEO of UnitedHealthcare. Recent reports from Fox News Digital indicate that Mangione has enlisted the services of a prominent New York attorney and former CNN legal commentator to defend him.

Karen Friedman Agnifilo has been chosen to act as Mangione’s legal representation in light of the second-degree murder charge he is facing for the incident that took place on Dec. 4 in Manhattan. This appointment has been officially confirmed by a spokesperson from Friedman Agnifilo’s office.

With a background as the chief assistant district attorney in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office for a seven-year tenure, Friedman Agnifilo possesses extensive knowledge of New York City’s legal framework. For the last three years, she has been practicing law at Agnifilo Intrater LLP.

Mangione’s attorney in Pennsylvania, Thomas Dickey, has denied that his client is responsible for the killing in New York and believes he will plead not guilty in the Big Apple to the murder charge and other charges. Mangione also plans to plead not guilty to charges in Pennsylvania related to possession of a gun and fake ID authorities say was found on him when they arrested him, according to Dickey.

The suspect appeared to be driven by frustration with the health insurance industry and alleged “corporate greed,” police have said, although he was not an insured member of UnitedHealthcare.
