We covered the disruptive behavior caused by three Democratic House members from New Jersey at an ICE detention facility in Newark last Friday. Despite initial denials from the Democrats, video evidence released by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) proved otherwise.

The DHS confirmed an ongoing investigation into the incident and did not rule out the possibility of making additional arrests. Newark Mayor Ras Baraka was among those arrested during the disruption on Friday.
In a related development, Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman, one of the three House members involved, made a comment that drew criticism. She stated that their intervention was aimed at “shielding” Mayor Baraka when he was taken into custody for trespassing.
It should be noted that the members of Congress were there on Friday with protesters who were also trying to get into the facility.
On Monday, protesters were out in front of the ICE facility again.Â

They blocked an entrance to prevent vehicles from going in and out. They must have grabbed all the old hippies in New Jersey, because this is quite something. Listen as they sing, “Fascism’s got to go!”Â

At least two ambulances tried to get in, but were unable to, according to Fox News.Â

The protesters condemned the detention of the people in the facility.
DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin told Fox in response to the action, “Who do they want released from Delaney Hall? The child rapists, murderers, drug traffickers, MS-13 gang members or known terrorists?”
But as with all such protests, the situation deteriorated, and people were arrested. Notice some in keffiyehs – easy for switching to any protest.Â

They need to have consequences for these actions to scotch these efforts. They can’t interfere with the ability to get in and out of the facility. And anyone who assaulted a federal officer in either of these incidents has to be held accountable.Â
