Honey Boo Boo risks reigniting feud with Mama June as she talks mother's drug past: 'It's the truth'

Alana ‘Honey Boo Boo’ Thompson is risking reigniting her feud with her mother Mama June, as she bares her soul about her tumultuous childhood.

She skyrocketed to fame at the tender age of five on Toddlers & Tiaras, delivering the iconic line that propelled her into the world of reality TV: ‘A dollar made me holler, honey boo boo!’

The joke catapulted her into an upbringing in front of the camera, with her own show Here Comes Honey Boo Boo and then Mama June: From Hot To Not.

The show featuring Mama June underwent a rebranding to Family Crisis as the main star grappled with a harrowing addiction to crack cocaine. This struggle brought about a turbulent rift between her and her children, a saga that captivated both headlines and television viewers alike.

Over time, June managed to overcome her issues and repair her relationship with Alana, her daughter. However, their appearances on reality TV still showcase tense moments, particularly revolving around Alana’s earnings as a child star. June has openly admitted to using $30,000 of Alana’s earnings for her own expenses.

Now Alana, 19, has pulled back the curtain on her upbringing in a new Lifetime biopic called I Was Honey Boo Boo, and she has candidly revealed that she did not mince her words when discussing her mother, via People.

‘I did not want this movie to be throwing punches at my mama and making her out to be the bad guy,’ said Honey Boo Boo. ‘But I didn’t hold back and if she gets mad, at the end of the day it’s the truth.’

One of the flashpoints of their checkered relationship was June’s drug problem, which Alana began noticing as she entered her teen years.

‘I noticed something was off about her. She started locking her doors which really made me think: “Oh, what is she doing?”‘ remarked Alana.

The issue exploded into the public eye when June and her husband Geno Doak were arrested and charged with felony drug possession, triggering a rollercoaster drama that ripped the family apart on reality TV.

Alana, who was being raised by her older sister Lauryn ‘Pumpkin’ Efyrd and brother-in-law Josh Efyrd, had to go to school and face remarks like: ‘I saw your mama on the news with a busted tooth, strung out,’ to which she would reply: ‘Great, like I didn’t see that too.’

June eventually got sober and is now married to one Justin Stroud, whom she met in rehab in 2021 while getting her addiction under control.

However her tensions with Honey Boo Boo did not end there, as the two have been seen clashing bitterly over the latter’s child star earnings.

June has admitted to spending $30,000 of her daughter’s money, and has also neglected to contribute to Alana’s college fund.

Furthermore, Alana continues to maintain that she has received no financial windfall from her star turn on Here Comes Honey Boo Boo.

Alana candidly acknowledged that she found it ‘hard’ to forgive her mother for their turbulent past but eventually managed to rebuild their relationship.

She noted that ‘at the end of the day, she’s my mom. When she was bad in her addiction I just kept thinking about the day she’d recover. We’re going pretty good. Hopefully it lasts. I just no longer have any expectations for her.’

Meanwhile June said of her own troubled past: ‘I don’t remember who that person was, because I’ve worked so much on myself.’
