Full statement from Mather High School principal:

  • “Dear Mather Parents and Guardians,
  • The protection and well-being of the students are always the foremost concern, and we want to update you on the recent event near our school premises. After the shots were fired in the vicinity during dismissal, we swiftly moved everyone indoors, informed the relevant authorities, and initiated a soft lockdown. Once the Chicago Police Department and CPS Office of Safety and Security confirmed there was no direct threat to the school, normal operations resumed for the remainder of the day. Thankfully, no injuries were reported among the students and staff, and all individuals are accounted for and safe.

Please know that we take safety extremely seriously. If your child voices any concerns or fears to you about this incident, please reach out to us, and we will be able to provide them additional support. Thank you for your partnership. We will continue striving to provide our students with a safe and positive learning environment where they can reach their full potential. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me.

    Sincerely,

    Principal Tesinsky”
