MONUMENT, Colo. — An Arapahoe County sheriff’s deputy was arrested earlier this month for alleged harassment and tampering.

Deputy Nicholas Caines of the Arapahoe County Sheriff’s Office was arrested on May 3, and this was brought to the attention of the office. Following this, he was promptly suspended without pay while still in custody.

Specifics regarding Caines’ arrest in Elbert County for charges related to the Town of Monument have not been disclosed yet. The circumstances surrounding his arrest remain unclear at this time.

Court records show that Caines was arrested for harassment and tampering. His bond was set at $2,000, and he posted the payment on May 5.

Caines, who has been part of the sheriff’s office since April 2018 and was recently working in patrol, is under an ongoing internal investigation as confirmed by the ACSO.
