MIDTOWN, Manhattan — Oyamel is a Mexican restaurant located in Hudson Yards, Manhattan, headed by chef José Andrés. This eatery beautifully showcases the rich history, diversity, and passion inherent in Mexican cuisine.
Nicholas Lopez, the content chef, enthusiastically shared, “Today, we are at Oyamel, our Mexican concept, where you’ll discover a plethora of Mexican delights ranging from tacos, ceviche, guacamole to tortilla festivals. We pride ourselves on not engaging in fusion cuisine or trying to revolutionize traditional dishes. Instead, we carefully curate and present the best offerings Mexico has to offer right here in Hudson Yards.”
“There’s no better way to start your meal than with a guacamole. The guacamole we made it with fresh avocados from Mexico,” he said.
After the guacamole, Lopez recommends their marinated seafood. But one thing is a staple.
Lopez emphasizes the importance of tacos, stating, “The heart and soul of Mexico reside in our tacos. Our menu boasts a variety of options including fish tacos, carnitas, short rib, mushrooms, and a rotation of seasonal choices that celebrate the essence of Mexican cuisine.”
Another dish to try? Their Mexican Fiestas.
“We have the lamb barbacoa, that incredible dish from Mexico that they cook in an underground pit for four or five hours, until the lamb gets toasted out of the bone,” Lopez said.
The focus is to try to bring Mexico to the table.
“At the end of the day, it’s just respect, respect for the story, respect for the recipe book, and respect for the authenticity of the Mexican cuisine,” Lopez said.
