Based on a 30-minute audiotape he left before his actions, Bartkus was identified as a “pro-mortalist,” a peculiar philosophy that criticizes the idea of not giving consent to be born among other beliefs.

Bartkus explained in his twisted recording that he’s “angry” that he even exists. He also tried to videotape the attack:
At the start of the recording, he stated, “I thought I would explain through this recording why I have chosen to bomb an IVF facility or clinic. In essence, I am upset about my existence and the fact that no one sought my permission to bring me into this world.”
Labeling himself as anti-life, he further expressed, “I am strongly opposed to [IVF], I find it inherently unethical. These individuals are intentionally having children after thorough contemplation. How could it be any more absurd?”
Bartkus also set up a tripod with a camera in an effort to film his attack, but the file failed to upload to his website.
